Financial Manager Position

The Opportunity: In this role, you will provide oversight and leadership for the financial operations of Helping Hands food bank, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that mitigates suffering in Skagit County. Further responsibilities include financial reporting and accounting operations, budget management, asset management, policies, procedures, audit, and compliance. 

This is a part-time contractor position that reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

About Helping Hands Food Bank: Helping Hands started in the basement of a church with one idea in mind. To feed the community. Over the past 35 years, Helping Hands has grown from a small food bank in a church to a solution center offering more than just food. Helping Hands, through the years, has expanded to offer DSHS services, job internships, a navigation center to help families identify solutions to their situation, and much more.

Our Mission: The mission of Helping Hands is to mobilize the community while respectfully providing nutritious food, information, and resources to help participants achieve their full potential.

We will begin reviewing applications as they come in.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintains the reliability, verifiability, timeliness, usefulness, completeness, and accuracy of all accounting transactions, processes, and systems.
  • Processes and reconcile all financial transactions for Helping Hands.
  • Prepares monthly and year-end financial reports in a timely matter.
  • Insure auditory and accounting compliance by determining and setting best practices.
  • Review RFP process in compliance with Investment/Banking policy.
  • Budgeted support for department managers and monitors annual spending of those budgeted funds.
  • Ensure integrity and sustainability of all named funds by monitoring activity and recommending any corrective action.
  • Works directly with the independent CPA firm to conduct the annual audit on a timely basis. Prepares all supporting schedules and reports required by auditors.
  • Prepares all documentation required for IRS 990 preparation.
  • Prepares and submits any financial reports required by funders, including private foundations and state or federal agencies. Ensures compliance with funder requirements and/or intent.
  • Supervises regulatory compliance as required for 501(c)(3) organizations.
  • Evaluates insurance needs of Helping Hands and works with brokers to secure and renew policies.
  • Assumes management of special projects as assigned by the CEO.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. in Finance or Accounting OR bachelor’s degree in another field with additional years in accounting.
  • Financial management experience for non-profit organizations.
  • Broad knowledge of the operations of non-profit organizations, including fundraising and administration.
  • Knowledge of Fund Accounting.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, FASB, and AICPA auditing standards and practices and the skill to design and implement financial accounting, financial statements, and policies and procedures to comply.
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office software; advanced user of Excel and electronic accounting systems.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPA or CMA preferred.
  • Knowledge of non-profit, 501(c) (3) accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations and laws governing non-profit organizations.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and good judgment.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to develop and deliver effective presentations.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is generally performed in an office environment. The ability to speak clearly on the telephone and on a computer is required. The ability to make sound judgments is essential. There will be times work will be performed in the physical location in Sedro-Woolley.

COMPENSATION: The position is a part-time position as a contractor. The person will be asked to schedule some time to be in the office during work hours. Base pay is $40,000 to $50,000, depending on experience.
