September is Hunger Action Month! Hunger Action Month was established by Feeding America in 2008 as an initiative to address food insecurity throughout the country. This September, Helping Hands encourages the Skagit County community to get involved in the fight against food insecurity by becoming a monthly donor.
According to United for ALICE: in 2022, 27% of households in Skagit County were ALICE households, and 11% households were in poverty. ALICE is an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed – households that earn more than the Federal Poverty Level, but less than the basic cost of living for the county. Helping Hands Food Bank and Solutions Center is Skagit County’s largest direct food provider and requires no prequalification to access its resources. Helping Hands strives to support all community members, those living in poverty and ALICE households, through the support of community investors and volunteers.
This September, for Hunger Action Month, Helping Hands Food Bank invites YOU to join the initiative to end hunger in our community; get involved in the fight against food insecurity by becoming a monthly donor. By donating $25, you can provide nutritious food to a family of four for an entire month.
In 2023, Helping Hands distributed over 3.4 million pounds of food over 274,000 visits from participants; this was only possible because of the community investors. Join the fight against hunger in the Skagit community this September for Hunger Action Month!
